California Licensing Education · Private education provider

California dealer continuing education.

Revisit the decisions that matter in a working dealership. Our renewal course draft uses 12 original cases to examine sales practices, disclosures, records, and changes in California requirements.

In development. Public enrollment is closed.

This is a private draft, not an approved renewal course. Reviewing cases does not earn official credit, issue a certificate, or renew a license.

The current private review portal and draft outlines are in English. This public information page does not establish approval for a dealer course or Spanish-language instruction.

Private review

Review a transaction. Find what needs attention.

The cases ask reviewers to connect a rule to a decision and the record that supports it. They use fictional transaction details, worked examples, and linked primary sources.

A sale does not end at the signature.

A cancellation request, a missing disclosure, or an incomplete vehicle file can change what the dealer needs to do next. The renewal draft includes a California CARS Act pricing and cancellation case, with source references to check before applying a rule.

Keep your review connected to the source.

Dealer rules change. Each course draft needs both a teaching review and a check against the current authority.

In the private review portal

Read the case, work through the question, and compare your reasoning with the cited sources. Formative practice provides answer feedback. Save notes or bookmark the parts that need another look.

Review records identify the draft version. They are preparation records and do not document approved training hours.

Plan around your renewal date.

Keep the education requirement and the license renewal application on the same calendar, with their supporting records.

DMV renewal information
  1. Check your renewal requirements.

Use your renewal notice, the current Occupational Licensing service, and OL 45, the renewal application. OL 45 describes an education-evidence requirement every two years. Confirm the deadline and the requirements for your license category.

  2. Verify a provider and course.

Check DMV’s provider list for continuing education and the intended delivery method. Our private review portal does not supply official credit.

  3. Keep the education and filing records.

Follow the authorized provider’s certificate process and DMV’s current instructions for the application and supporting documents. Completing education does not by itself renew the business license.

Dealer renewal questions.

Separate course review, required continuing education, and the renewal of your license.

Is this an approved dealer renewal class?

Not yet. The continuing education course is in private draft review. Public enrollment is closed, no official education credit is granted, and we do not issue a DMV renewal education certificate.

Is dealer continuing education the same as prelicensing?

No. Prelicensing prepares a first-time applicant. Continuing education revisits dealer obligations through current rules and operating scenarios. Our renewal draft uses its own 12 cases. First-time used-vehicle or wholesale-only applicants can read our prelicensing information. Neither private draft provides approved education or an official certificate.

Can the required continuing education be online?

The online/home-study column in the official provider directory concerns continuing education. Verify the provider, specific class, and delivery method. That column does not establish online-prelicensing or Spanish-instruction approval here, and our draft portal does not provide an approved online course.

Can a wholesale-only dealer apply for an education exemption?

OL 257 is an education-exemption application for qualifying wholesale-only dealers. It is not an automatic waiver. Check the form’s conditions and certification requirements for each renewal period with DMV; an education exemption does not remove the renewal-application requirement.

Will finishing these cases renew my dealer license?

No. The cases are preparation only. Required education and a dealer license renewal application are separate. Confirm your own renewal deadline, required documents, and applicable education requirement with DMV.

Does the portal send a certificate to DMV?

No official certificate or submission is created by private draft review. Our traffic-school license E1008 does not authorize dealer education. Dealer education and licensing use Occupational Licensing processes, separately from traffic-school TVCC reporting.

How can reviewers use the practice assessments?

Authorized reviewers can open the renewal track, read the cases and sources, answer formative questions, and save review notes. Practice feedback supports review; it does not certify eligibility or award official credit.

Where can I check recent dealer rule changes?

Use DMV’s vehicle industry news and memos, the current statutes, and the agencies responsible for each topic. Check the effective date and the facts of the transaction before relying on older course materials.

Check the current requirements.
